Kolkata Knight Riders have had a pretty good start to the IPL 2024, winning three out of four games. They have six points and a superb net run-rate of 1.528. After winning three games on the bounce, KKR suffered their first defeat of the season against Chennai Super Kings. 

Batting first, KKR were 56 for 1 at the end of the powerplay with Sunil Narine scoring 27 off 20 and Angkrish Raghuvanshi making 24 off 18. But then they had a collapse and could only reach 137/9 with Shreyas Iyer top scoring with 34 off 32. Defending a small target, KKR bowlers couldn't make enough impact as Chennai clinched the game with 14 balls to spare.

Having opted to bat first, LSG had a big collapse. KL Rahul struck 39 off 22 but soon they were reduced to 94 for 7. Ayush Badoni, who made 55 not-out in 35, put on a 73-run partnership with Arshad Khan to lift the score to 167. In defence, Ravi Bishnoi took 2 for 25 in four overs but the rest of the attack couldn't do much.

The pitches at Eden Gardens have generally been very flat and batting friendly in the IPL in recent years. The average first innings score at this venue last year was 193 from seven games. In the first game this season, over 410 runs were scored across two innings. Expect another high-scoring game on Sunday afternoon. 

The weather forecast suggests that Kolkata should be sunny and warm on Sunday afternoon. The game doesn't have any threat of rain interruption. As for the temperature, it should range between 34-39 degree Celsius during the afternoon.

Several top quality wicket-keepers are involved in this game and we have gone with all four of Phil Salt, KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran. All four have been in good form and none of them can be left out. Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh bat in the middle order but should still be picked. 

Among all-rounders, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Marcus Stoinis have been in good form and are must picks. In the bowlers section, we have only picked Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi. 

As for the C & VC, there are several options in play but we have gone with KL Rahul and Sunil Narine. Rahul looked in great touch in the previous game while Narine has been terrific at the top. Narine’s bowling should also be a threat against this opponent.

The KKR vs LSG head to head record is in favour of Lucknow who have won all three games between the two teams. Speaking of this fixture, Lucknow Super Giants are battling some injury issues with Mohsin Khan and Mayank Yadav unlikely to play this game, which weakens their bowling unit. KKR have a pretty good batting line-up and a spin department. But the pace attack could be a concern. Our match prediction is for KKR to come out on top in this game.

Toss prediction: Kolkata Knight Riders to win the toss and bat first

Eden Gardens has been a good venue for chasing over the years. However, this is an afternoon fixture and teams would not want to field in extreme heat at this time of the year. Dew will not be a factor so there is not much bias for the chasing side. For these reasons, the teams could look to put runs on the board. Our toss prediction is that Kolkata Knight Riders will win the toss and opt to bat first. 

Man of the match prediction: Sunil Narine 

Sunil Narine has rediscovered his form with the bat and has formed a destructive opening pair with Phil Salt. He has scored 161 runs in four innings this season at a strike rate of 189 while averaging 40. The mystery spinner has also taken four wickets with the ball at a good economy rate of 7.37. Narine could make a good impact in this game as an all-rounder.
