KKR vs SRH match preview

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will be up against each other in Match No.3 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Both teams failed to make their way through to the playoffs last time around and would be looking to make amends. The Knight Riders have dominated the Sunrisers over the years, but in their previous meeting last year in Kolkata, it was SRH, who won.

In fact, both teams have had their fair share of ups and downs over the last few seasons with frequent change in leadership.

The upcoming KKR vs SRH prediction is expected to be a cracker as both teams are equally matched.

Kolkata Knight Riders

The Knight Riders did an excellent job in the auction after they roped in Mitchell Starc for INR 24.75 crore. Starc became the most expensive buy in the history of the IPL. Earlier, Nitish Rana also said that the Australian pacer has added firepower to KKR’s death bowling.

The Knights recently played a couple of practice games where they players looked in great rhythm. Phil Salt, who replaced Jason Roy in the squad, also looked in great touch.

The focus will be on Rinku Singh, who has grown leaps and bounds in the last 12 months or so. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine remain their gun players.

The KKR vs SRH prediction will depend a lot on how the Knights can take advantage of home conditions in Kolkata.

Kolkata Knight Riders Possible 11: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer (C), Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Mitchell Starc, Chetan Sakariya, Varun Chakravarthy, Vaibhav Arora

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad have struggled to find their feet ever since David Warner was sacked as their skipper. Kane Williamson and Aiden Markram were made captains, but none of them were able to turn their fortunes around. This season, SRH appointed Pat Cummins as their captain.

In the auction, the Sunrisers roped in Cummins at a price of INR 20.50 crore. However, concerns remain over his tenure as Cummins is yet to lead any team in T20 cricket.

The likes of Travis Head, who played some brilliant knocks in the ODI World Cup, and Heinrich Klaasen, who is in the form of his life, will also need to be on top of their game.

The KKR vs SRH prediction will depend heavily on how Cummins manages to step up in his new role as the skipper of the Sunrisers.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Possible 11: Mayank Agarwal, Travis Head, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram (C), Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Abdul Samad, Pat Cummins, Washington Sundar, Umran Malik, T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Pitch report and expected weather conditions

The pitch at Eden Gardens is expected to be an excellent one for the batters. A high-scoring match seems to be on the cards. Teams need to score around the 190-run mark to have a decent chance of winning the match. Spinners will also have a big role to play in the match.

There is no chance of rain as of now in Kolkata. Temperatures will be around the 26-degree Celsius mark. Playing conditions will be extremely hot with the numbers in the high-70s and 80s.

KKR vs SRH Dream11 prediction

Our KKR vs SRH Dream11 predictions for this match:

  • Wicketkeeper(s): Heinrich Klaasen
  • Batter(s): Travis Head, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Rinku Singh
  • All-rounder(s): Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen
  • Bowler(s): Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins
  • Recommended captain: Andre Russell
  • Recommended vice-captain: Mitchell Starc

We have picked Andre Russell as the captain because of his all-round skills. Having picked up 97 wickets, the West Indies all-rounder is on the verge of becoming the second KKR bowler to pick up 100 wickets in T20s. Russell is also closing in on hitting 200 sixes in the IPL. If he gets going, KKR could find themselves in a lot of trouble.

It is a gamble making Mitchell Starc the vice-captain at a time when he is making a comeback in the IPL after 8 seasons. Given his experience of playing in India, it should not raise eyebrows if Starc starts of IPL 2024 in the best possible way. He has been a genuine wicket-taker across all three formats.

KKR vs SRH match prediction: The team batting second to win

As per the KKR vs SRH match prediction, the team batting second should be able to have the last laugh. The Knights have a strong batting lineup and they should be able to chase down targets. SRH also have some world-class batters in their ranks.

KKR vs SRH toss prediction: Kolkata Knight Riders to win the toss and field first

As per the KKR vs SRH toss prediction, teams should opt to field first after winning the toss. The track is not expected to change much and batters will be able to play their shots on the up throughout the duration of the game.

Player of the Match prediction: Andre Russell

Andre Russell has played brilliantly against the Sunrisers over the years. Not only can he strike the ball a long distance, but can also pick up wickets in crunch moments. The likes of Mitchell Starc, Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen are also contenders to win the Player of the Match award.

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad betting odds

  • Kolkata Knight Riders: 1.904
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad odds: 1.896

As per the KKR vs SRH betting odds, there is not much difference between the two teams. The Knights will have the home advantage, but one cannot afford to rule out the Sunrisers by any stretch of the imagination.
