Mumbai Indians have had an awful start to their IPL 2024 campaign and need to get in the points desperately. They have played two matches and lost both. More recently, they suffered a 31-run loss at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
MI were on the receiving end of the highest team total in IPL history as SRH smashed 277 in 20 overs. The MI top order came out all guns blazing and put the team in a good position. They were 150/2 in 10.3 overs but couldn't keep up the scoring rate in the second half of the innings.
MI possible XI: Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Naman Dhir, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (c), Tim David, Shams Mulani, Gerald Coetzee, Piyush Chawla, Jasprit Bumrah, Luke Wood

Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, have won both the games they have played in the IPL 2024 so far. They defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 20 runs in the first game and followed it up with a 12-run victory over Delhi Capitals at Jaipur.
RR had found themselves in big trouble against Delhi while batting first. They were 36 for 3 in 7.2 overs with their star top three back in the hut. Riyan Parag stepped up big time as he smashed 84 not-out in 45 balls to power them to 185. Nandre Burger and Yuzvendra Chahal snared two wickets each while Avesh Khan picked 1 for 29 in four overs.
RR possible XI: Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c/wk), Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Nandre Burger
Pitch and expected weather conditions
Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is one of the best venues in the world for batting. The pitches are generally flat and have good bounce, helping batters to hit through the line. The average first innings score at this ground since 2018 stands at 175.
The weather in Mumbai should be clear and warm on Monday evening. There is no chance of precipitation so the match should go ahead uninterrupted. The temperature is likely to hover between 25-29 degree Celsius.
MI vs RR Dream11 prediction
Our MI vs RR Dream11 prediction for this match
- Wicketkeeper(s): Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson
- Batter(s): Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma
- All-rounder(s): Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Riyan Parag
- Bowler(s): Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Nandre Burger
- Recommended captain: Jos Buttler
- Recommended vice-captain: Sanju Samson
In this part of the MI vs RR match prediction, we talk about why we picked this XI for the Dream11 contest. Wankhede Stadium is a good venue for batting but pacers can be effective with the new ball and in middle overs. So we have opted for a balanced side, considering the players in action.
From the wicket-keeper batters, we have picked Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson while leaving out Ishan Kishan, who has three threats in the opponent’s bowling unit. Rohit Sharma has looked in very good touch and Yashasvi Jaiswal is in the best phase of his career. Tilak Varma scored a fifty in the last game and should get game-time here.
Moving on to the all-rounders, Hardik Pandya is a must pick because of his skill set while Riyan Parag has been in great form. Ravi Ashwin also adds dual value as Rajasthan Royals often use him as a floater with the bat.
Among bowlers, we have Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult who are must picks. Nandre Burger has been impressive in his debut IPL season and should be picked.
There are several captaincy and vice captaincy options in this game such as Buttler, Jaiswal, Pandya, Samson. We have gone with Buttler and Samson. Both batters have a pretty good record against MI and like batting at this venue.
Match prediction: Rajasthan Royals to win
The overall head to head record between the two teams is in Mumbai Indians’ favour with 16 wins as opposed to 13 by Rajasthan Royals. MI also lead the last five encounters by 4-1. However, RR have a strong side this time around and are coming off back to back victories. Rajasthan have a more in-form bowling attack compared to Mumbai who were ripped apart in the last game. Mumbai are without the services of Suryakumar Yadav. Our match prediction is for Rajasthan Royals to win.
Toss prediction: Rajasthan Royals to win the toss and field first
Wankhede Stadium is an excellent batting venue and it gets better in the second innings. The dew also makes it much harder to bowl in the second innings. The venue has hosted 54 T20s since 2018, with the chasing side winning 33 of those. Our toss prediction is that Rajasthan Royals will win the toss and opt to field first.
Man of the match prediction: Jos Buttler
The English batter has had a poor start to this season but has the ability to turn things around. Jos Buttler has a very good record in the IPL, with 3245 runs at an average of 37 while striking at 148. He has five hundreds and 19 fifties in the league. Buttler enjoys playing against Mumbai Indians. He has scored 504 runs versus MI at 63 average and 147 strike rate.
Betting Odds
- Mumbai Indians: 1.81 (PARIMATCH)
- Rajasthan Royals: 2.00 (PARIMATCH)
The bookmakers believe Mumbai Indians have a better chance of winning this game. MI have the odds of 1.81 ahead of the match whereas RR have bigger odds of 2.00.
