Royal Challengers Bengaluru did not have a great start to the IPL 2024 season, taking a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings. The RCB skipper Faf du Plessis got them off to a flying start before they suffered a collapse and were reduced to 78/5.
Anuj Rawat struck 48 off 25 while Dinesh Karthik made 38* off 26 to help them recover to 173 in 20 overs. Their bowling unit wasn't as effective as CSK remained ahead of the game. Cameron Green bagged two scalps but it wasn't enough as CSK chased down the target with 8 balls to spare.
RCB possible XI: Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis (c), Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Anuj Rawat (wk), Dinesh Karthik, Alzarri Joseph, Karn Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Yash Dayal

Punjab Kings kicked off their campaign with a victory over Delhi Capitals by four wickets at Mullanpur. They won the toss and opted to field first. Arshdeep Singh bagged 2 for 28 in four overs while Harpreet Brar snared 1 for 14 in three. But a late cameo from Abishek Porel meant PBKS needed to chase down 175.
Chasing the total, Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh made quick 20s but it was Sam Curran who went on to play a key knock. He made 63 off 47 deliveries whereas Liam Livingstone an unbeaten 38 off 21 to see his side over the line.
PBKS possible XI: Shikhar Dhawan (c), Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Sam Curran, Shashank Singh, Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh
Pitch and expected weather conditions for RCB vs PBKS
M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is a venue that is known as a paradise for batters and a hell for bowlers. The pitches at this ground are usually very flat and the short boundaries make batting even easier. Since 2018, the average first innings score in Bengaluru stands at 188.
Bengaluru should witness warm and clear weather on Monday evening and rain should not be a concern for this game. The temperature is likely to range between 25-29 degree Celsius in the evening.
RCB vs PBKS Dream11 prediction

Our RCB vs PBKS Dream11 prediction for this match
- Wicketkeeper(s): Prabhsimran Singh, Anuj Rawat
- Batter(s): Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow
- All-rounder(s): Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran
- Bowler(s): Harpreet Brar
- Recommended captain: Faf du Plessis
- Recommended vice-captain: Virat Kohli
In this part of the RCB vs PBKS match prediction, we will discuss the reasons for going in with this XI for the Dream11 contest. Given the nature of the venue, we have opted to go with a batting-heavy side.
Starting with the players who are big names and have a great track record, Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell become must-picks. Shikhar Dhawan has also been a consistent performer while Jonny Bairstow can destroy any bowling unit on his day.
Among the wicket-keepers, Prabhsimran Singh bats in the top order and l in the first game. Anuj Rawat, who made 48 in the last game, is the only left-hand batting option for RCB and could be used as a floater.
Apart from Maxwell, the other all-rounders that must be picked are Sam Curran, Cameron Green and Liam Livingstone. Curran is coming off a fifty while Livingstone also smashed a few blows. Green claimed two wickets on his RCB debut. Picking bowlers at this venue is not of much use and so we have only picked Harpreet Brar. The PBKS left-arm spinner will be key against an RHB-heavy Bengaluru batting line-up.
For captaincy and vice captaincy, we are going with the RCB openers. Both du Plessis and Kohli are prolific run-scorers and can produce big knocks at this venue.
Match prediction: Royal Challengers Bengaluru to win
Punjab Kings hold a narrow edge in the head-to-head numbers, having won 17 games compared to 14 by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Talking about this game, RCB have a better side on paper. They have a stronger batting line-up and a more potent bowling unit compared to Punjab. PBKS’ hopes could depend on how the left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar does. Our match prediction is for Royal Challengers Bengaluru to win.
Toss prediction: Punjab Kings to win the toss and field first
M Chinnaswamy Stadium is a high-scoring venue and controlling the run flow in the second innings can be very hard. Looking at the overall record, the chasing team has gone on to win 55% of the matches here. Our toss prediction is that Royal Challengers Bengaluru will win the toss and opt to field first.
Man of the match prediction: Faf du Plessis
The RCB skipper looked in sublime touch in the opening game against CSK, where he scored 35 off 23 deliveries. Faf du Plessis had an outstanding IPL season last year, amassing 730 runs at an average of 56 while striking at 154. He struck eight fifties in the tournament and was the second highest run-getter. Back du Plessis to continue his form from the first game at this good batting venue.
