The first-ever Purple Cap winner in IPL 2008, Sohail Tanvir managed to pick a tally of 22 wickets for Rajasthan Royals to bag the prestigious award. Likewise, every IPL season, the Purple Cap winner is bagged by the player managing to pick the most wickets in an IPL edition.

However, throughout the entire course of the tournament, Purple Cap keeps juggling among players who are the highest wicket-taker at the end of each match in the IPL.
