The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed a massive change in batters’ mindset and here's every instance of every 250-plus score in the IPL. 200 is no longer a safe total in the cash-rich league. Punjab Kings comfortably chased 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders. Flat pitches, and small boundaries might be the reasons to point out but these conditions existed even before.
This time around, the batters have become fearless and hence, 250 is being easily breached. Before IPL 2023, it was done only once back in 2013 but once in 2023 and a staggering eight times this season has led to records tumbling. Here we list every 250-plus score in the IPL.
IPL 2024 Qualification Scenario: A definitive look into how teams are placed to reach the playoffs
Every 250-plus score in the IPL
- SRH – 287/3 vs RCB, 2024
Sunrisers Hyderabad batted with a fearless mindset in this encounter played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Travis Head led the way smashing 102 runs off just 41 balls while Heinrich Klaasen supported him well to score 67 runs. On the back of their stunning knocks, SRH posted the highest ever total in IPL history – 287 runs in their 20 overs with 19 fours and 22 sixes hit in their innings.
- SRH – 277/3 vs MI, 2024
Around a fortnight before launching an assault on RCB, SRH had plundred runs against five-time champions Mumbai Indians. It was a collective effort from their batters this time around with Travis Head smashing 62 off 24, Abhishek Sharma 63 off 23 and Heinrich Klaasen scoring an unbeaten 80 off just 34 deliveries.A total of 18 sixes were hit in the innings to go with 19 fours as SRH raced their way to a record total of 277 runs in their 20 overs.
- KKR – 272/7 vs DC, 2024
Within a week after SRH posted 277 runs, Kolkata Knight Riders showed their might with the bat going berserk against Delhi Capitals. Sunil Narine caused mayhem with the bat thundering his way to 85 runs off 39 balls while newbie Angkrish Raghuvanshi smashed 54 too. Andre Russell (41) and Rinku Singh (26 off 8) provided a stunning finish as KKR ended at 272 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of seven wickets. A total of 18 maximums were hit in the innings.
- SRH – 266/7 vs DC, 2024
Five days after tearing apart the RCB bowlers to score 287, SRH batters were once again in action and this time it was time for Delhi Capitals’ bowlers to be at the receiving end. Head smashed his way to 89 off 32 balls while his opening partner Abhishek scored 46 off just 12 balls. SRH were 133/2 at one stage after seven overs threatening to even breach the 300-run mark but a few quick wickets pegged them back. However, Shahbaz Ahmed stole the show in the end with an unbeaten 59 off 29 to propel them to 266 runs in 20 overs with a staggering 22 sixes hit in the innings and it was one of every 250-plus score in the IPL.
- RCB – 263/5 vs Pune Warriors, 2013
For almost 11 years, RCB owned the record of the highest total in IPL history. Back in 2013, thanks to Chris Gayle’s thunderous marauding 175* off 66 balls with 13 fours and 17 sixes against Pune Warriors, RCB had posted 263 runs in their 20 overs. Only AB de Villiers had matched Gayle’s knock in the innings smashing 31 off 8 deliveries as they eventually won the game by a massive 130 runs.
- PBKS – 262/2 vs KKR, 2024
IPL 2024 has been breaking records for fun and it was Punjab Kings who registered the highest successful chase in the history of the tournament. Chasing a massive target of 262 runs, the Kings never dropped a guard throughout the innings with Jonny Bairstow scoring an unbeaten 108 while Prabhsimran Singh (54 off 20) and Shashank Singh (68* off 28) also smashing the KKR bowlers out of the park. Punjab Kings literally strolled home in the end with eight balls in hand.
- RCB – 262/7 vs SRH, 2024
RCB batters had the licence chasing 288 runs against SRH and they just went after the bowling right from the word go. The openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis added 80 runs in just 6.2 overs with the latter smashing 62 runs off just 28 balls. However, despite the middle-order collapse, Dinesh Karthik heroically carried the innings. He kept the bowlers on their toes hitting 83 runs off 35 deliveries with five fours and seven sixes propelling RCB to 262 runs in their 20 overs. Karthik’s knock went in vain as RCB fell short by 25 runs in the end and it was one of every 250-plus score in the IPL.
- KKR – 261/6 vs PBKS, 2024
KKR might have lost that match but scoring 250+ in 20 overs is not a joke and the mark was once again breached at the Eden Gardens. It was the duo of Narine and Phil Salt who added 138 runs in just 10 overs. They scored 71 and 75 runs respectively while the other batters also chipped in with quick runs as KKR, for the second time in IPL 2024, crossed the 250-run mark to post 261/6 in 20 overs. Unfortunately, Punjab Kings chased down the total with more than an over to spare.
- DC – 257/4 vs MI, 2024
Records continued to tumble in the ongoing IPL season when Delhi Capitals too plundered MI’s bowling to cross the 250-run mark. Jake Fraser-McGurk was the major reason as he smashed his way to 84 off just 27 balls with 11 fours and six sixes to his name. The carnage continued down the order too with Shai Hope scoring 41 runs off 17 and Tristan Stubbs played an unbeaten cameo of 48 runs facing only 25 balls during his stay in the middle. These eye-popping contributions made sure DC posted a mammoth total of 257 runs on the board in their 20 overs to eventually win the match only by 10 runs in the end.
- LSG – 257/5 vs PBKS, 2024
Only a year ago, Lucknow Super Giants had posted the second highest total in the history of IPL. But it is now 10th in the list. It was a crazy evening in Mohali with all LSG batters going berserk. It started with Kyle Mayers smashing 54 off 24 and ended with Marcus Stoinis’ 72 off 40 and Nicholas Pooran’s 45 off 19. Ayush Badoni also starred batting at three scoring 43 runs off 24 deliveries as LSG raced their way to 257 runs breaking massive records and it was one of every 250-plus score in the IPL.
