A look at the latest updated IPL 2024 Qualification Scenario for the playoffs stage of the season.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is already through its halfway stage with several jaw-dropping matches at different venues keeping fans at the edge of their seats. The 10 teams, in the meantime, are focussed on securing their positions in the top four and get ahead in the IPL 2024 qualification race.
The top two spots come with an incentive that allows teams two chances to qualify for the final. On the contrary, teams in the third and fourth spots need to win three games (Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and Final) in a row to win the trophy.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) remain the only team in the history of the IPL to get their hands on the coveted trophy after finishing outside the top two. Hence, it’s evident that teams need to put in their best foot forward and somehow sneak into the top two to give themselves a better chance of winning the title.

IPL 2024 Qualification Scenario
Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
Remaining fixtures: GT (A), RR (H), RCB (A)
Chennai Super Kings got their campaign underway with a couple of resounding wins over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) at home. The win over Sunrisers Hyderabad had pushed Chennai to third position, but a shock loss to Punjab Kings at home has pushed them into a tough spot and they need to do well in the remaining three games to qualify.
They have a net run rate of +0.700 after six wins from 11 games and will need to be ruthless in their next couple of games. The question, though, is if they can finish in the top four.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Remaining fixtures: CSK (A), PBKS (H), KKR (H)
Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been the standout team of the tournament without a shred of a doubt. Placed on top of the table, Sanju Samson’s men are in a strong position to not only make their way through to the playoffs, but finish as the league stage as the table toppers.
Out of their next three matches, RR need to win two more games to cement their place in the top two. Although they would not be playing at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur anymore, they have got themselves in a great position of making their way through to the next round. in the IPL 2024 qualification battle
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
Remaining fixtures: MI (H), GT (A), RR (A)
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are placed top in the table with 16 points thanks to wins in eight out of 11 matches. But the biggest advantage KKR has is their net run rate, which is currently at +1.453. If the Knights take care of their net run rate, they need two more wins out of their next few games to seal a top two spot. The win against DC, MI and LSG in the last three games has propelled them to the top spot.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Remaining fixtures: LSG (H), GT (H), PBKS (H)
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been a force to reckon with in the ongoing T20 league. They have come out all guns blazing and it only seems a matter of time before they cement their place in the top four of the table. They have 12 points to their name thanks to wins in six out of 11 matches. They are now fourth in the table.
Their net run rate of -0.065 is not the worst by any stretch of the imagination. The Sunrisers faltered in the last couple of seasons, but here lies a golden chance for them to advance to the playoffs despite the latest stumble.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
Remaining fixtures: SRH (A), DC (A), MI (A)
Lucknow Super Giants have made a good comeback in IPL 2024 after a hot and cold start, but could still miss out on a playoff spot. They are in sixth position and have 12 points in 11 games, the same as some of the other teams. Their net rate of -0.371 could go against them, though. Back in 2022 and 2023, KL Rahul’s men made their way through to the playoffs, but they need to work a bit harder to tighten their spot in the top four.
They have fixtures against SRH, DC and MI again remaining.

Gujarat Titans (GT)
Remaining fixtures: CSK (H), KKR (H), SRH (H)
Gujarat Titans have looked far from their best after Hardik Pandya’s departure and Mohammed Shami’s injury. They are struggling in the bottom of the table with eight points after wins in four out of 11 games, with the latest losses denting their chances of qualification significantly. It is impossible for them to qualify from here.
Mumbai Indians (MI)
Remaining fixtures: KKR (A), LSG (H)
Mumbai Indians are currently under a transition phase after Hardik Pandya took charge as their skipper, replacing Rohit Sharma. The five-time champions started with three losses on the trot and are yet to find their feet in the championship. They have 8 points and a net run rate of -0.212 with wins in four wins out of 12 games.
Hardik, himself, is going through a rough phase both as an all-rounder and skipper. MI slumped to losses in four of their last five matches are all but out of qualification race.
Delhi Capitals (DC)
Remaining fixtures: RCB (A), LSG (H)
Delhi Capitals need to winboth their remaining games to have a chance of going through to the playoffs. The team, led by Rishabh Pant, currently has ten points and a net run rate of -0.316 thanks to wins in six out of 12 games. The win against SRH is a major boost for them and they could still qualify for the playoffs.
DC seemed to have found some momentum after a few wins in their last few games. However, they are still fifth in the table and have played the most games.
Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Remaining fixtures: RCB (H), RR (A), SRH (A)
Punjab Kings (PBKS) looked promising after they beat Delhi Capitals (DC) and started their campaign in the best possible manner. However, they lost their way in between and let alone qualifying for the playoffs, PBKS are in danger of finding themselves near the bottom of the table in the tournament. They gave themselves a good boost with a record run-chase against KKR and a win over CSK in Chepauk in their last two games, but lost the next leg and still only have four wins in 11 games.
Chances of them qualifying for the playoffs are bleak as they need to win all their remaining games to finish in the top four. They also need to improve their net run rate of -0.187. They are currently placed eighth in the table with eight points.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Remaining fixtures: PBKS (A), DC (H), CSK (H)
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have had a campaign equivalent to a nightmare. Their bowling attack has come under fire more often than not. Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green being out of form has not helped him by any means.
They are placed near the bottom of the table with eight points and a net run rate of -0.049. It goes without saying that even if RCB win all their remaining matches, they may well fall short of a berth in the playoffs and are therefore out of the IPL 2024 qualification race. They got small confidence boosts with wins over Sunrisers and Gujarat in recent fixtures, but a comeback to the other half of the table is out of question.
