The record for the highest team score in the IPL is held by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had smashed 263 back in 2013. Over the years, the Indian Premier League has witnessed some massive scores with fours and sixes raining down. Today we take a look at the highest team score for each IPL side in the tournament history.
Highest team score for every side in the IPL
Rajasthan Royals – 226/4
Rajasthan Royals are the franchise with the lowest highest team score amongst all IPL sides. Their highest score of 226/4 occurred in a clash against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2020. The tournament was shifted to the UAE for this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Sharjah was a batting paradise in the early part of the competition.
Punjab Kings batted first and put on a big score of 223/2 in their 20 overs, with Mayank Agarwal hitting an unbeaten 106 off 50. Chasing the target, Steve Smith and Sanju Samson got them off to a great start. Smith scored a 27-ball fifty while Samson went on to hit 85 off 42. Rahul Tewatia then smashed 53 off 31 as they crossed the line with three balls to spare.

Delhi Capitals – 231/4
Delhi Capitals, formerly known as Delhi Daredevils, put on 231/4 against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2011. It remains their highest-ever team total in the tournament's history. Delhi Capitals had a destructive opening pair of Virender Sehwag and David Warner, and they made the most of the short boundaries at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.
They put on a 146-run opening stand in just 11.4 overs. Sehwag smashed 77 off 35 while Warner made 77 in 48 deliveries. Cameos from Venugopal Rao and Naman Ojha took them to 231. In the end, Delhi Capitals won the match by 29 runs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – 231/2
On March 19, 2019, Sunrisers Hyderabad obliterated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 118 runs at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. SRH piled on 231/2 in their 20 overs while batting first on that day.
The architects of this annihilation were Jonny Bairstow and David Warner. The pair belted the RCB bowling attack all over the park as they added 185 runs for the opening wicket in 16.2 overs. Bairstow smashed 114 off just 56 deliveries. Warner then upped his game to finish with an unbeaten 100 in 55 balls.
Punjab Kings – 232/2
Punjab Kings posted 232 in their clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Dharamsala on 17th May 2011. Kings had received an 85-run drubbing from RCB earlier in the season and they repaid it with interest.
Adam Gilchrist was the star of the show, blasting 106 off just 55 balls. Shaun Marsh struck 79 not out in 49 deliveries as the pair added 206 runs for the second wicket in 16 overs. This was a remarkable display of batting after being 25/1 in four overs. Punjab went on to clinch the match by 111 runs after posting their highest team score in the league.
Gujarat Titans – 233/3
Gujarat Titans, who joined the Indian Premier League in 2022 and won the debut season, registered their highest team score on 26th May 2023. This was a big stage with Titans taking on Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 for a shot at the final.
Shubman Gill, who had already smashed two hundreds and four fifties in the season before this game, rained on Mumbai Indians. He struck 129 in just 60 deliveries to power his team to 233. Titans won the game comfortably by 62 runs to reach their second straight final.
Mumbai Indians – 235/9
Mumbai Indians crossed the 200-run mark on six occasions in the IPL 2023 but their highest team score came in 2021. It was their final group fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad and they needed to win by over 170 runs to reach the playoffs.
Batting first, they posted 235/9 in their 20 overs. Ishan Kishan blasted 84 off 32 at the top of the order while Suryakumar Yadav struck 84 off 40 deliveries. MI, who had clinched back-to-back IPL titles in 2019 & 2020, won the match by 42 runs but wasn't enough to reach the top four.
Kolkata Knight Riders – 245/6
On 12th May 2018, Kolkata Knight Riders registered their highest team score when they amassed 245/6 versus Punjab Kings at Indore. This was the season, Sunil Narine was at the peak of his batting powers.
Opening the innings, Narine and Chris Lynn got them off to a great start. Narine smashed 75 off just 36 deliveries. Andre Russell played a cameo of 14-ball 31 while Dinesh Karthik struck 50 off 23 balls. KKR went on to win the game by 31 runs.
Chennai Super Kings – 246/5
The joint-most successful IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings have three entries in the top 7 highest team scores in the league. Their best came on April 3rd 2010 when they took down Rajasthan Royals for 246/5 in Chennai.
Murali Vijay produced one of the most eye-catching displays of batting as he blasted 127 off 54 balls. He struck eight fours and 11 sixes in his knock. Albie Morkel also made 62 off 34 as he added Vijay 152 runs for the third wicket. CSK were run close by the Royals and only won by 23 runs.
Lucknow Super Giants – 257/5
Lucknow Super Giants, the two-year-old franchise has the second highest team score in IPL history. On April 28th 2023, they visited Punjab Kings' home in Mohali and tore apart their bowling unit on their way to 257/5.
It was a collective effort with Kyle Mayers hitting 54 off 24 at the top of the order and Ayush Badoni making a 24-ball 43. Marcus Stoinis then scored 72 off 40 while Nicholas Pooran fetched 45 runs in just 19 balls.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – 263/5
Royal Challengers Bangalore have been the proper entertainers in the IPL for good and bad reasons. They have had some incredible batting line-ups over the years and it is no surprise they hold two of the top three highest team scores in IPL history.
On April 23rd 2013, RCB destroyed the Pune Warriors India bowling attack en route to the highest IPL total. This was the match where Chris Gayle smashed the highest individual T20 score of 175 not out in 66 deliveries. Gayle hit 17 sixes in his innings to power RCB to 263/5 in 20 overs.
