To qualify for the IPL final 2023 date, May 28, GT had to bat well and especially start on a good note. However, Wriddhiman Saha got out early and even skipper Hardik Pandya was sent back early. Shubman Gill batted patiently waiting for the right opportunity but lack of support at the other end meant he also lost his wicket in a bid to score quick runs.

Rashid Khan tried to take the game to the opposition scoring 30 off just 16 but he was left to do a little too much in the end. GT got bowled out for 157 falling short by 15 runs as CSK qualified, with the IPL 2023 final date on May 28.

What happened in the Eliminator?

As far as the Eliminator is concerned, Mumbai Indians played their best cricket against LSG in this encounter. After losing the toss, Cameron Green scored 41 runs and Suryakumar Yadav slammed 33 runs while the real impetus to the score was given by the Impact Sub player Nehal Wadhera, scoring 23 runs from 12 balls with two fours and as many sixes. MI managed to post 182 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs.

In response, Akash Madhwal of MI blew away LSG with his terrific spell. LSG were never in the chase even though Marcus Stoinis seemed to take the game away from them at one stage. However, once the second wicket partnership between him and Krunal Pandya was broken, LSG lost 8 wickets for just 32 runs as they got bundled out for 101 runs in the 17th over.

Madhwal returned with the magical figures of 5/5 in 3.3 overs and broke several records in the evening.

What happened in Qualifier 2?

Gujarat displayed an explosive start, led by the young talent Shubman Gill. In the crucial match, Gill played aggressively and reached a century in just 49 balls, marking his third hundred in four IPL innings. His remarkable innings included 10 sixes, contributing to his total score of 129.

With Gujarat Titans setting a formidable target of 233-3, Mumbai Indians found themselves constantly playing catch-up throughout the game. Gill's onslaught proved to be too much for Mumbai as they struggled to find a response. In Qualifier 2, four out of Mumbai's six bowlers conceded more than 10 runs per over. Although Gill's dismissal provided a brief respite, Hardik Pandya posed a further challenge, contributing an unbeaten 28 runs off just 13 balls. Pandya's quickfire innings helped Gujarat Titans reach a commanding total of 233-3.

In their pursuit, Mumbai Indians' Suryakumar Yadav showed some resistance, but the target proved insurmountable in the end. Unable to overcome the steep score, Mumbai Indians were eliminated from the IPL 2023 tournament.
