Oldest player in each IPL team
Chennai Super Kings – MS Dhoni (42 years 165 days)
MS Dhoni, hands down, is the oldest player not only in CSK but also of IPL 2024 again. The man is now 42 years old but is still going strong and is looking fit as ever leading CSK for the umpteenth time in his career. Dhoni, however, underwent knee surgery soon after last season and has now recovered from the same. Will this be his last season? Most probably yes given that the mega auction is set to happen next year but he is the oldest player in each IPL team.
Delhi Capitals – David Warner (37 years 53 days)
Delhi Capitals will have the services of veteran David Warner at the top of the order who is at th fag end of his career. Warner has retired from ODIs and Tests already and is set to give his last shot at the T20 World Cup this year. But when it comes to IPL and T20 leagues, the man is expected to play his trade for a few more years. For now, the left-hander will be looking forward to contributing to the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024.
Wriddhiman Saha – Gujarat Titans (39 years 56 days)
Wriddhiman Saha is one of the unsung heroes for whichever team he plays. He might be the oldest players in Gujarat Titans IPL team but is the first-choice wicketkeeper for the side too. He will open the innings for the Titans mostly with new captain Shubman Gill and will be keen on providing the team with quickfire starts.
Kolkata Knight Riders – Andre Russell (35 years 234 days)
Andre Russell is still one of the best hitters of the ball and even at the age of 35, remains key player for KKR in IPL 2024. His experience and all-round prowess will be very important for the two-time champions this season. His batting position has always been a matter of debate and it will be interesting to see if Russell will bat up the order this season.
Amit Mishra – Lucknow Super Giants (41 years 25 days)
Like MS Dhoni, even Amit Mishra is ageing like a fine wine with every passing year. His leg-spin thrives in testing conditions even now and the franchise will be looking to use his expertise yet again. Mishra played seven matches last year and picked up as many wickets. He will be looking to add more to his tally in IPL 2024. He also makes it to the list of oldest player in each IPL team for 2024.
Mumbai Indians – Mohammad Nabi (38 years 352 days)
Mr President Mohammad Nabi is the oldest player in MI team in IPL 2024. The Afghanistan veteran will soon turn 39 during the IPL itself and is turning up for the five-time champions for the first time in his career. It remains to be seen if he gets a chance in the first few matches given the kind of players the team possesses in the line-up.
Punjab Kings – Shikhar Dhawan (38 years 14 days)
After Dhoni, Dhawan is the third most oldest player to lead the IPL team this year. Dhawan has a lot of challenges to face leading the Punjab Kings who are yet to win the trophy in IPL. The left-hander is one of the best batters in the cash-rich league but still has a lot to prove not only with the bat but also with his captaincy.
Rajasthan Royals – Ravichandran Ashwin (37 years 93 days)
Ravichandran Ashwin’s legacy was celebrated recently as he featured in the 100th Test of his illustrious career. Not celebrated much as a T20 bowler now though Ashwin returns to the format where he still wants to prove himself. The knowledge of the game and his variations with the ball certainly makes him a special cricketer. It shouldn’t be a surprise if he comes up with few more tricks this season to outdo the batters.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – Faf du Plessis (39 years 159 days)
Age is only a number. This has been proved by Faf du Plessis certainly given his fitness and performance over the years in IPL. Leading RCB, he was the second highest run-scorer of IPL 2023 amassing 730 runs in 14 innings at a strike-rate of 153.68 with as many as eight fifties. This highlights how consistent he was for his team and one year later, for IPL 2024, Du Plessis is looking even more hungry to score runs and win the coveted trophy for the first time for the franchise. Among all oldest player in each IPL team, he is the oldest overseas player.
With RCB Women winning the Women’s Premier League (WPL) this year, the onus is on Du Plessis to make it a double joy for their fans who have been an unwavering support to the team throughout all these years.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – Bhuvneshwar Kumar (33 years 317 days)
Sunrisers Hyderabad is one of the youngest teams in IPL 2024 as unlike others, their oldest player is only 33 years old and he is veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The man has now become a T20 specialist and although he is no more a part of Indian team, his experience will certainly be gold for an otherwise inexperience pace attack of SRH. Bhuvneshwar’s death overs bowling will be once again key for SRH as even they eye to repeat their 2016 heroics in IPL under their new captain Pat Cummins who was picked for INR 20.5 crore at the auction.
