The 25th match of the ongoing Cricket World Cup in India is set to be played between England vs Sri Lanka head to head. The match is scheduled to be played on October 26 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Both teams are struggling at the moment in the tournament and this is a must-win encounter for them.

England have lost to New Zealand, Afghanistan and South Africa so far while their only win in four outings came against Bangladesh. They have performed underwhelmingly in all facets of the game and to make things worse, their best bowler Reece Topley has been ruled out of the tournament with a fracture to his left index finger.

They have named Brydon Carse as his replacement but overall, the team needs to show some intent while on the field. The bowling is looking helpless at the moment while the batters have completely failed to adapt to different conditions in India.

The fans will be hoping now that the desperate situation England are in will at least make them play their best cricket in the upcoming matches. One more loss and the title defence for England at this World Cup ends.

Sri Lanks, meanwhile, might be coming off a win over the Netherlands but that came after three consecutive losses at the hands of South Africa, Pakistan and Australia. Their bowling has been an issue in this tournament while batting just clicked against the Dutch where they chased down 263 runs to register their first two points.

Having said that, it certainly wasn’t the perfect game for Sri Lanka. They looked like a team to beat in the World Cup qualifiers but the gulf between them and the quality teams remain.

But given their rich cricketing history, it is surprising to see their downfall. The team from the island nation is also missing its key bowlers Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga who are injured.

To make things worse, Sri Lanka also lost their captain Dasun Shanaka in the middle of the tournament with Kusal Mendis taking over the reins of the team. Chamika Karunaratne replaced Shanaka in the squad but that hasn’t changed the fortunes of Sri Lanka at all.

Against England, they will be hoping to better their ODI head to head record and also take confidence from the fact that the Brits are struggling to find their way in this World Cup.
