India vs New Zealand head to head stats and records ODI 2023
India vs New Zealand head to head have had some terrific encounters over the last decade, but it is the Kiwis who have had the best moments in the biggest of stages. While India have dominated the bilaterals over the years, especially in limited overs cricket, in the ICC tournaments, New Zealand have the upper hand, picking up some memorable wins over India.
India and New Zealand faced each other for the first time in a Test match in Hyderabad, back in 1955. While India picked up a win against New Zealand in their second meeting in Mumbai in 1955, it took the Kiwis another 13 years to defeat India for the first time.
In ODIs, India and New Zealand faced each other for the first time in the 1975 World Cup. The Kiwis emerged victorious by four wickets in that encounter.
The semifinal of the 2023 World Cup is upon us, and India and New Zealand will face off against each other for the second successive time in the top four of the World Cup. India had played the Black Caps four years ago in the semifinal of the 2019 World Cup, with New Zealand emerging victorious. The match, played over two days due to rain, was MS Dhoni's last game for India, and the hosts will be looking to avenge that loss and continue their unbeaten run in the tournament.
India have won nine out of nine games in the competition thus far, while New Zealand ended fourth on the points table with five wins and four defeats. They have, however, not defeated a top five side yet in this World Cup.
India vs New Zealand head to head team ODI records and stats
While India have a narrow edge in the head to head meetings between these sides, winning 59 matches while Kiwis won 50, New Zealand have been the dominant side in their last 11 meetings. This also includes the iconic 2019 semi-final between both sides in Manchester, which saw New Zealand beat India by 18 runs to book a berth in the final.
Here’s a look at the last 11 matches between these sides in ODIs in India vs New Zealand head to head.

India vs New Zealand: What happened in the last meeting?
India won the last meeting between both sides in ODIs earlier in 2023. It was the third ODI of the series in Indore and India were already 2-0 up in the series. It didn’t stop them from putting up another convincing performance, which saw the hosts win by 90 runs.
It all began with a stellar batting performance from skipper Rohit Sharma (101 off 85 balls) and Shubman Gill (112 off 78 balls), who smashed centuries at very impressive strike-rates. Hardik Pandya’s half-century and a cameo towards the end from Shardul Thakur steered India to 385/9 in 50 overs.
In response, Devon Conway’s century kept New Zealand in track, but he lacked the support from his partners. Shardul Thakur starred with the ball, picking up three crucial wickets and New Zealand were bowled out for 295 runs in 41.2 overs. Shardul Thakur was named player of the match for his all-round performance.
Match date: January 24, 2023 Venue: Indore Result: India won by 90 runs
