Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians match preview

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad had a poor start to the IPL 2024 as they went down by just 4 runs in a thriller against Kolkata Knight Riders. On a flat Eden Gardens pitch, SRH bowling attack was mostly ineffective. T Natarajan snared 3 for 32 in four overs but the rest of the attack was expensive as KKR posted 208 in 20 overs.

Chasing the target, Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma got them off to a flying start with 60 runs in 5.2 overs. They then lost a few wickets and were falling behind the game. Heinrich Klaasen brought them back to life with a blistering knock of 63 off 29 but an untimely dismissal meant SRH fell short narrowly.

SRH possible XI: Mayank Agarwal, Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, Pat Cummins (c), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians could not break their first match curse as they lost the season opener against Gujarat Titans by 6 runs in front of an electric Ahmedabad crowd. Jasprit Bumrah produced a magnificent spell of 3 for 14 in three overs while Gerald Coetzee picked 2 for 27 on his IPL debut.

In the second innings, MI lost Ishan Kishan for a duck. Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis added 77 runs for the third wicket before Rohit was dismissed for 43 off 29. Brevis made 46 but took 38 deliveries for it which hampered their chase. Hardik Pandya hit a six and a four when 19 were required in the final over but holed out on the next delivery.

MI possible XI: Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (c), Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Shams Mulani, Gerald Coetzee, Piyush Chawla, Jasprit Bumrah, Luke Wood

Pitch and expected weather conditions for SRH vs MI

The pitches at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium are usually balanced with some assistance for bowlers and batters both. Since 2018, the average first innings score at this venue in IPL reads 165. Last season, the number was 174 after seven games. Expect a flatter surface in the first game of the season here.

As per the forecast, the weather in Hyderabad should be hot and clear on Wednesday evening. There is no threat of rain for this game. The temperature should hover between 26-30 degrees during the match-time.

Our SRH vs MI Dream11 prediction for this match

  • Wicketkeeper(s): Heinrich Klaasen
  • Batter(s): Rohit Sharma, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma
  • All-rounder(s): Hardik Pandya, Aiden Markram, Wanindu Hasaranga
  • Bowler(s): Jasprit Bumrah, Gerald Coetzee, Pat Cummins, Bhuvneshwar Kumar
  • Recommended captain: Jasprit Bumrah
  • Recommended vice-captain: Heinrich Klaasen

Here in the SRH vs MI match prediction, we will go through the above playing XI and explain why we have picked it for this Dream11 contest. Taking the venue into consideration, we have opted to go with a balanced side.

From the wicket-keepers section, we have gone with Heinrich Klaasen and left out Ishan Kishan. Klaasen is in incredible form and is a must pick. Rohit Sharma and Abhishek Sharma both looked good for their respective team in the last game. Tilak Varma could bat one spot higher in this game and could be a good pick.

From the all-rounders, Hardik Pandya and Aiden Markram pick themselves while Wanindu Hasaranga could be included in the SRH playing XI for this game. Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee are must picks while Pat Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar can be good picks.

For the captaincy and vice captaincy, we have gone with Bumrah and Klaasen. The Mumbai Indians pacer is coming off a superb spell and is a reliable candidate. Klaasen bats lower down the order but has the form and skill set to make a big impact in a short period.

Match prediction: Sunrisers Hyderabad to win

Mumbai Indians lead the head to head record in this rivalry by 12 wins to 9. Talking about this season, MI have a strong batting line-up although they are without Suryakumar Yadav for the first few games. Led by Jasprit Bumrah, they have a pretty potent bowling attack too. SRH have a few impactful batters but the lineup can be vulnerable against a quality bowling unit. Our match prediction is that Mumbai Indians will win.

Toss prediction: Mumbai Indians to win the toss and field first

The stadium in Hyderabad is one of the venues where the team batting first has a better record in T20 cricket. 12 out of 22 matches played here in the IPL were won by the team batting first. However, this being a night fixture, there could be dew in the second innings which makes chasing an easier option. Our toss prediction is for Mumbai Indians to win the toss and opt to field first.

Man of the match prediction: Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah has a claim to be the best bowler in the world and there's not much argument against it. The right arm pacer looked in great rhythm in the last game and showed what Mumbai Indians missed last year. He snared 3 for 14 in his four overs. Bumrah has a stellar record in the IPL, with 148 wickets at an economy of 7.36.

Betting Odds

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad: 2.12 (PARIMATCH)
  • Mumbai Indians: 1.71 (PARIMATCH)

The bookmakers have placed Mumbai Indians as the favourites to win this game. MI have 1.71 odds of winning this contest whereas the hosts SRH have bigger odds of 2.12.
