Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Gujarat Titans (GT) are set to lock horns in Match No.14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Thursday, April 13 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.

The Kings, led by Shikhar Dhawan, had the rub of the green go in their favour against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). Even as against KKR, they won by seven runs (DLS), the had to fight hard against Sanju Samson’s Royals, beating them by five runs. However, the Kings tasted their maiden defeat after the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat them by eight wickets.

The Titans, on the other hand, had every chance of winning three games in a row and staying unbeaten in the tournament. With 29 runs to defend off the last over, the Titans were well on course to securing their third win after victories over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC). But Rinku Singh’s heroics in the last over denied them victory in Ahmedabad.

Shubman Gill is the leading run-scorer, having scored 105 runs. Gill has been in excellent form even in the 2023 edition of the IPL. Sai Sudharsan is second on the list with 100 runs. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone and Bhanuka Rajapaksa are also there.

Most wickets

Kagiso Rabada has picked up six wickets in matches between the Kings and the Titans. Rashid Khan is the only player in the list with three wickets. Darshan Nalkande, Lockie Ferguson and Mohammed Shami are also in the list. Ferguson is currently with the Knight Riders after being traded in by the two-time IPL champions.

Liam Livingstone, who has not played a single game in IPL 2023 due to injury, was the standout batter for the Kings in that game. The right-handed batter scored 64 runs off 27 balls with seven fours and four sixes. Shikhar Dhawan scored 35 runs off 30 balls with the help of four fours.

Jitesh Sharma, Shahrukh Khan and Arshdeep Singh played handy cameos of 23, 15 and 10 not out respectively. Mayank Agarwal and Jonny Bairstow, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a toe injury, failed to breach the single-digit score.

Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers for the Titans after he finished with figures of 4-0-22-3. Darshan Nalkande got two wickets of Jitesh Sharma and Odean Smith. Mohammed Shami, skipper Hardik Pandya and Lockie Ferguson got one wicket apiece.

The Titans had their fair shares of jitters, but they somehow got past the finish line. Shubman Gill scored 96 runs off 59 balls with 11 fours and one six. He was also involved in a partnership of 101 runs with Sudharsan, who scored 35 runs off 30 balls. Hardik also scored 27 runs off 18 balls, but the Titans found themselves in some strife going into the last over.

With 17 runs needed off four balls, David Miller smashed Odean Smith for a four after which he took a single and gave the strike to Rahul Tewatia. With 12 runs to win off the last two balls, Tewatia showed nerves of steel and saved the day for the Titans.

Tewatia smashed two sixes on the trot as the Titans snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in the thriller at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Kagiso Rabada picked up two wickets for 35 runs and was the standout bowler for the Kings.
