Records broken in the SRH vs MI IPL 2024 clash

A record-breaking SRH vs MI clash in Hyderabad saw some long-standing IPL records broken. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) went bonkers when they faced Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match on Wednesday, March 27 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

After being asked to bat first, Pat Cummins and Co. racked up a colossal score of 277/3 in 20 overs. Barring Mayank Agarwal, who scored 11 runs off 13 balls before getting out to Hardik Pandya, every other SRH batter went out there and enjoyed themselves.

Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen did not show MI any sort of mercy whatsoever. On an absolute belter of a pitch to bat on, they kept playing their shots until the last ball of the innings. None of the MI bowlers could put a lid on them.

Klaasen, Head, Abhishek demolish Mumbai Indians in SRH vs MI

Head laid the platform after he scored 62 runs off 24 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Making his debut for the Sunrisers, the southpaw did not show any signs of nervousness whatsoever. SRH would have heaved a sigh of relief after Gerald Coetzee accounted for his wicket.

But Head’s wicket did not slow down the SRH innings. Markram, who came to bat at No.4, started his knock with a classical boundary through the off side. The former SRH captain stayed not out on 42 off 28 balls with 2 fours and a six. Given the nature of the game, Markram’s knock can be deemed as a sedate one.

Abhishek threw the kitchen sink at everything and notched 63 runs off 23 balls with 3 fours and 7 sixes. He played at a strike-rate of 273.91 and got out with SRH’s score at 161/3 in 11 overs. Thereafter, Klaasen came out firing on all cylinders and made sure that the Sunrisers never took their foot off the pedal.

Klaasen keeps tormenting bowlers

Klaasen was at his bludgeoning best against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) when he almost took his team past the finish line. He carried his form against MI as well after he raced his way to an unbeaten 80 off 34 balls with 4 fours and 7 sixes. Having already hit 15 sixes from 2 matches, there is no stopping Klaasen whatsoever.

Klaasen and Markram put on 116 runs with Markram for the fourth wicket off 54 balls. While Markram got the scoreboard ticking with the odd boundary, Klaasen kept clearing the ropes with utmost ease. 21 runs were scored off Shams Mulani’s last over and that showed how brutal Klaasen and other SRH batters were.

Kwena Maphaka had become the first bowler to pick up 3 five-wicket hauls in the U19 World Cup that took place in South Africa. He made a rough start after recording the worst figures by a debutant in the history of the IPL. The left-arm pacer finished with figures of 4-0-66-0.

The dubious record was earlier held by Michael Neser, who leaked 62 runs for Punjab Kings in their match against RCB back in 2013 at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Jasprit Bumrah had the best figures on the day and was the only MI bowler with an economy rate of less than 10. It was a day MI bowlers would want to forget.
